Russian Missiles Hit Kyiv, Killing at Least 10
Exclusive and In-Depth News from the Kyiv Post
A Russian missile strike on Monday destroyed a crowded children's hospital in the center of Kyiv, part of a large-scale aerial assault on the Ukrainian capital.
The attack, which began at around 7 a.m. local time, also struck several residential buildings, killing at least 10 people and injuring dozens more, according to Ukrainian officials.
The Okhmadyt Children's Hospital, one of the largest in Ukraine, was severely damaged in the strike. The hospital's director, Volodymyr Zhovnir, said that at least five children and three adults were killed in the attack.
The strike on the children's hospital has been condemned by world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who called it a "heinous crime." The United Nations has also condemned the attack, saying that it is a "grave violation" of international law.
The latest strike on Kyiv is part of a broader Russian offensive in eastern Ukraine. In recent days, Russian forces have made significant gains in the Donbas region, capturing several key towns and cities.
The fighting in Ukraine has now entered its fifth month, with no end in sight. The conflict has displaced millions of people and caused a humanitarian crisis, with many Ukrainians facing shortages of food, water, and medicine.
