Eramet Eyes Expansion in Indonesia's Nickel Mining Sector

Jakarta Post Reports Miner's Plans for Permit Acquisition

Bloomberg has reported that French miner Eramet SA is actively seeking to acquire additional nickel mining permits in Indonesia, as confirmed by a senior company official to the Jakarta Post. Bruno Faour, Director of Eramet Indonesia, affirmed the company's commitment to investing further in Indonesia and exploring potential partnerships to produce battery-grade nickel.

Eramet's plans are aligned with the country's push for resource extraction and processing. Indonesia is the world's largest producer of nickel, a key component in electric vehicle batteries. The government has implemented policies to encourage investment in the sector, including incentives for downstream industries.

The news of Eramet's expansion plans comes amid broader international interest in Indonesia's nickel resources. German chemical giant BASF and Eramet are finalizing a €2.6 billion partnership deal to invest in a nickel processing facility in the country. The deal underscores the strategic importance of securing access to nickel supplies for global industries.
